ACHHAM: Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, Parbat Gurung, has said that chhaupadi practice is not only the problem of Sudur Paschim and Karnali states, it is the problem of entire nation.
At a campaign organised to end the practice of chhaugoths and promote dignified menstruation at Mangalsen in the district, Minister Gurung said that the government has launched a campaign to demolish chhaugoths as this practice is taking place as ill-practice in the society.
He stressed that all should support government’s campaign to destroy chhaugoths in Sudur Paschim and Karnali states, adding that time has come where all people’s representatives, politicians, and civil society to be aware and alert to end such practice.
Laying emphasis on the need of continuing the chhaugoth demolishing campaign, Minister Gurung said that the role of three-tier governments is crucial to make the campaign a success. He mentioned that public awareness should be created about legal action and problems of social sector.
Similarly, Minister of State for Health, Nabaraj Rawat, expressed the view that country’s development was not possible until the end of chhaupadi practice. He stressed that local government should take responsibility of every social campaign taking place in the society.
