Second-rung leaders try to appease Prachanda, Oli to table joint proposal

KATHMANDU: Second-rung leaders have started lobbying for making Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairmen PM KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda table a joint proposal at the upcoming Secretariat meeting.

Leaders are trying to persuade Dahal to withdraw the proposal and prevent Oli from submitting a proposal, saying there is a risk of the party splitting from the same point if Prime Minister Oli submits a ‘counter-proposal’ to the allegations against him at the Secretariat meeting.

Oli is preparing a document in Baluwatar saying that he will respond to the 19-page long proposal submitted by Prachanda accusing Oli of corruption, nepotism, dictatorship, etc. in a political proposal and has also urged him to resign.

The second-rung leaders have analyzed that if Oli brings another proposal against Prachanda, it could lead to more aggressive allegations and that would lead to a split in the party.

Therefore, General Secretary Bishnu Poudel, who is holding personal discussions with the second-tier leaders, has proposed Prachanda to table a joint proposal.

According to a source close to Poudel, Secretary Poudel is of the view that the party will remain united if Prachanda’s proposal is put on hold for the time being. ‘
