Floods, landslides obstruct roads across country



KATHMANDU: Major and minor roads across the country have been blocked due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains.

Prithvi Highway, a major highway connecting Kathmandu with the rest of the country, has been obstructed after a flood in Mowakhola in Dhading district washed away a bridge on Monday.

Shivahari Sapkota, Spokesperson and Deputy Director-General of Department of Roads said that efforts are being made to resume transportation along the highway.

According to the Department of Roads, 36 major and minor roads across the country have been blocked in the last week.

The Beni-Jomsom-Kerala road has been blocked since July 11, Sapkota said.

The landslides that occurred in some place of BP Highway and Siddhicharan Highway have been cleared. However, the road is still blocked at Sisnevir area of Siddhicharan and at four places in the Kamerephat-Tupidanda area of BP Highway.

The Narayanghat-Mugling road section has been blocked due to landslide at Charkilo Danda.

Similarly, a landslide at Jogimara of Malekhu-Mugling has blocked the road since yesterday. Similarly, the road in Parevatar area of Malekhu-Dhadingbesi has been blocked since yesterday.
