Sikkim imposes complete lockdown



GANGTOK: The Indian state of Sikkim has imposed a complete lockdown in the state from today to July 27 considering the surge in the coronavirus cases.

The decision to this effect was taken after reviewing guidelines for the management of the coronavirus situation in Sikkim, India media reports have said.

All government offices, institutions, commercial establishments, shops, markets and factories will remain closed, according to the decision.

The Sikkim government said all educational, coaching and training institutions will remain closed till August 31.

All activities, movement of people and goods, congregations, passenger vehicles will remain prohibited except for exemptions granted by the authorities.

Meanwhile, essential services will not be prohibited but the staff/employees are required to follow strict norms of mask, gloves and carry their identity cards.

The state has so far reported 305 positive cases. There are 213 active cases, while more than a hundred have already recovered from the disease.
