KATHMANDU: At a time when I/NGO sector of the country has been criticized for its inaction to tackle the Covid-19 situation, an NGO has provided various medical equipment worth six million rupees to many local levels in the country.
Jagriti Youth and Child Concern Nepal (JCYCN) carried out Covid-19 response programs in two phases during the lockdown.
In the first phase, it reached out to total 2,400 affected people by providing food materials.
Its service area in the first phase included Nagarjun Municipality, Kathmandu; Bagmati Rural Municipality, Lalitpur; Devchuli Municipality, Nawalparasi (East) and Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Rasuwa.
In the second phase of its program, the JCYCN provided as many as 810 packets of top gloves, 647.5 litres of hand sanitizer, 100 packets of surgical gloves, 380 PPE sets, 380 packets of paper face-masks, 168 pieces of infrared thermometer, 147.5 packets of KN-95 masks to various local levels.
It also provided food stuffs for 25 households as part of its second phase of program.
The organization, in collaboration with Kanallan-Switzerland in its second phase of COVID-19 response, reached various municipalities and health institutions including Uttargaya Rural Municipality Rasuwa; Hupsekot Rural Municipality, Bulingtar Rural Municipality, Madhyabindu District Hospital in Kawasoti, Baudikali Rural Municipality, and Kawasoti Municipality.
Likewise, it also distributed materials at Triveni Rural Municipality and Devchuli Municipality in Nawalparasi (East); Namobuddha Municipality Kavre; Bihadi Rural Municipality and Parbat District Hospital, Parbat; Tansen Municipality Palpa and Nisdi Rural Municipality Palpa.
Similarly, Sarumarani Rural Municipality, Pyuthan; Sanga Health Post, Kavre; Bijayanagar Rural Municipality and Yashodhara Rural Municipality Kapilvastu; Lumbini Eye Institute also benefitted from the support.
The organization also reached out to Syuchatar Health Post, Nagarjun Municipality, Kathmandu; and Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality and Gaidahawa Rural Municipality Rupandehi.
The aid was delivered with the help of local partners of JCYCN including FOWEP Kavre, Lumbini Development Forum Rupandehi, Indreni Samaj Kendra Palpa and Siddhartha Social Development Center Kapilvastu.
“Since the government alone cannot reach out to the needy and provide much needed support, I/NGOs need to play proactive role during pandemic situation,” said Tilottam Paudel, JCYCN President.
