Health Ministry rules out decision on PCR testing charge



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has denied reports that the ministry has determined the cost for PCR testing for coronavirus.

The Ministry has clarified that the decision was made to provide the service through public health institutions.

It came with the clarification at a time when some media reported that it involved the cost of Rs 15,000 while testing coronavirus infection through PCR procedure.

In a press release, ICS Coordinator Dr Gunaraj Lohani of the Ministry stated that the decision was made to allow the public health institutions to perform PCR test so as to widen its scope.

It said that the charge for the test, however, has not been stipulated.

Dr Lohani, in the statement, said that the decision was taken to widen the scope of test.

So far as many as 35,494 PCR tests and 75,072 RDT tests have been performed in Nepal.
