SINDHUPALCHOWK: The Sindhupalchowk District Administration Office today suspended a curfew imposed on Sunday in the Bahrabise bazaar following clashes between the police and the locals over a road widening issue.

The locals have been protesting the decision of removing them from the sides of the Araniko Highway during the road widening process.

Chief District Officer Goma Devi Chemjong said a seven-member committee to probe into the issue has been formed. The committee has been tasked with submitting a report within seven days.

An all-party meeting on Sunday formed the committee led by municipality officer Yug Bahadur Khadka.

Ward chairpersons of the wards, police officers and land surveyors are members of the committee.

The Municipality on Friday pulled down the sheds and houses constructed on both sides of the Araniko Highway encroaching upon the highway.

The municipality had demolished these structures using dozers after the owners disobeyed the orders to vacate and remove these structures.

The local administration had clamped a curfew from 8 am to 5 pm on Sunday to take the situation under control.
