Dissolution of the HoR is a reprehensible act: Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: An emergency meeting of the office bearers of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) convened to discuss the situation after the dissolution of the parliament has termed Prime Minister KP Oli’s decision as reprehensible act against democratic values, norms and the spirit of the constitution.

According to Krishna Prasad Poudel, the Chief Secretary of NC’s Central Office, the meeting of ex-office bearers of the party made four decisions:

The dissolution of the parliament is a reprehensible act arising from the totalitarian, autocratic and authoritarian character of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and it’s government.

“This is against the democratic values, norms and spirit of constitution. This decision of the government has undermined the federal democratic republican constitution and has led the country towards instability, uncertainty and chaos that might result in the failure state,” the party said.

It said, “The NCP-led government that managed to get nearly two-thirds majority in the parliament came into power through the enticing slogans of stability, peace and prosperity insulted the mandate of the people. While the people were suffering the most from the coronavirus pandemic the NCP government remained aloof and detached from the issues of livelihood and facilities of the people and was only concerned only in the power struggle and the luxuries. This failure-oriented move by the government from the very beginning is a continuation of a series of actions contrary to democratic norms and values and the constitution as well.”

NC has reiterated its commitment to the protection and promotion of federal democratic republican parliamentary system of government and the constitution of Nepal.

NC,  in coordination with other political parties in parliament shall work for the protection of the democratic system. NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba shall lead the coordination.
