Emergency Cabinet meeting underway in Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: An emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers has begun at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting has already started, said Ram Sharan Bajagain, Communication Expert to the Prime Minister.

In a previous meeting, Prime Minister Oli had recommended to the President to issue an ordinance on the Constitutional Council without even informing the ministers.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had also immediately issued the ordinance and it was published in the Nepal Gazette.

A Standing Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had endorsed the agreement reached between Oli and Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to withdraw the Constitutional Council Act Amendment Ordinance and signatures submitted to the President demanding to summon a special session of Parliament.

But, Oli did not withdraw the ordinance. He has put forward a new condition that the ordinance cannot be returned until Prachanda’s ‘charge sheet’ against him is returned.
