KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged one and all to celebrate the Chhat festival by adopting standard health protocol.

Extending greetings on the occasion of the Chhat festival, Prime Minister Oli has appealed to all the Nepali people to do so while celebrating the festival.

“We are facing COVID-19 pandemic amidst the mirthful celebration of the Chhat festival,” said the Prime Minister, adding, “I, hence, would like to urge one and all to observe the festival by adopting  precautionary health measures.”

Oli has said the pandemic has not only impacted the health condition of the people but also hit the economic health and prosperity of the county.

Meanwhile, Oli has expressed belief that the Chhat festival will work as a bridge between Nepali people living in the Tarai and hilly region.

The Chhat festival is being observed by offering argha (curd) to the setting sun today.

Today is the main day of the festival. The festival, which is celebrated from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Saptami according to the lunar calendar, had started on Wednesday.

According to the ancient grand epic Mahabharata, five Pandavas with Draupadi had worshipped the sun wishing for success during their exile.

They had taken a shelter at the palace of King Virata during their last year of exile. The Chhat festival had started since then, according to Mahabharat.
