Landslide and flood incur damage worth over Rs 260 million in Myagdi



KATHMANDU: Water-induced landslide and flood have damages to the physical infrastructures worth Rs 260 million in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality in Myagdi district this monsoon.

The landslide occurred on 9 and 10 July in the district damaged private residences, schools, road, drinking water facilities and electricity among others.

To reconstruct those damaged physical infrastructures, Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality Chairperson Thamsara Pun shared that they needed budget amounting to Rs 260 million.

The technical team had collected the details about the damages in the landslide-hit places such as Rikh, Ramche, Kalleni, Thulogaun and Kumri and assessed the damages at Rs 260 million.

A total of 19 people were killed in the landslide and flood and two went missing.

The Rural Municipality has been making efforts with State and Federal governments for the reconstruction of the damaged physical infrastructures, informed Pun.

The schools rendered partially damaged have been relocated to the safer building while those whose houses were completely damaged in the natural disasters could be provided a safe shelter (integrated settlement) before the winter creeps in, said Pun.

A total of 60 houses were completely damaged in the flood and landslide. Financial assistance would be sought from various humanitarian organizations including Myagdi Association Nepalese Association (MONA) for the reconstruction.

The local people’s representatives and some Good Samaritans have also contributed to the fundraising driver of the rural municipality to rebuild the damaged physical infrastructures. RSS
