Nepali national commits suicide in India

MUMBAI: A Nepali national has committed suicide by hanging himself at society doyenne Durga Chulani’s home in Nepean Sea Road, Malabar Hill in Mumbai of India, police said on Saturday.

Bhojraj Jaybahadur Thapa, 45, worked as driver-cum-domestic help at Chulani’s flat at Embassy Apartments, Malabar Hill.

The police suspect Jaybahadur Thapa was suffering from depression, Mumbai Mirror reported.

“We have learned that he used to drink a lot. On Thursday, when another driver came home, he found Thapa hanging in the kitchen area,” a police official said.

“We suspect he committed suicide with a belt. We have registered an accidental death report in the matter,” the official said. The police said they did not find any suicide note.

A friend of the Chulanis told Mirror that Jaybahadur Thapa had worked for Chulani for several years. Durga Chulani is called the ‘grand dame’ of the city. She is the mother of socialite Anju Chulani.
