Rapti River flood crosses danger mark

Siren rang, rescue team alerted

NEPALGUNJ: The continuous rainfall in Dang, Rolpa, Pyuthan and Banke districts that started from the early morning has taken the Rapti river above the ‘danger point’

According to Ram Bahadur Kurumbang, the Chief District Officer of Banke, the Rapti river has risen over the danger level.

The Rapti River is said to be above the ‘danger level’ when the water level rises over 5.40 meters.

According to CDO Kurumbang, the water level reached 5.74 meters at 6.45 PM on Saturday evening.

He informed that Rapti goes wild and destructive when it crosses 6 meters and affects various parts of Banke badly.

According to the CDO, it takes 4-5 hours for the floodwater from the Flood Measure Center, Kusum to Holiya river. He added that the locals of the danger zone have started evacuating their settlement after the flood.

The locals are informed about the preparation, precaution and the actions they have to take once the alarm goes ringing.

According to District Emergency Action Center Banke, Ward No.1-7 of Raptisonari, 1-3 of Dudawa and 5-6 of Narainapur Municipalities are under high risks.

The Center has kept the rescue team in high alert and ready position in case the flooding turns fatal.

If the doors of Laxmanpur dam built by India are opened, the flood can be controlled; but India does not let the doors go open.
