Delhi expands list of containment zones

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has included eight new areas to its list of its containment zones across New Delhi.

The list now comprises 76 areas in total as of April 18.

These areas have been sealed and no people are allowed to enter or exit as a precautionary measure, Indian media reports have said.

Authorities have also urged people of containment zones to rely on volunteers and police for doorstep delivery of essential items.

The decision to this effect has been made in a bid to contain further spread of the novel coronavirus in the national capital, reports said.

The novel coronavirus outbreak has, so far, claimed 42 lives in Delhi. A total of 1,707 people have been infected to date.

According to reports, 72 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals in New Delhi.
