Republic Memorial to open for public from May

KATHMANDU: The Republic Memorial located on the premises of the Narayanhiti Palace Museum will open for the general public on May 20, 2020, coinciding it with Republic Day.

Preparations are underway to open the memorial after the government handed over the memorial to Narayanhiti Palace Museum and Republic Memorial Management and Operation Development Committee.

Committee Executive Director Bhesh Narayan Dahal said that they need at least three months for preparations before opening the memorial for the general public.

The Republic Monument spread in 35 ropanis of land is prepared with an investment of Rs 400 million.

Separate monuments have been built in the memory of those who attained martyrdom during the insurgency; those made to disappear at the hands of the state, and those who still remain unaccounted for.

The government took the decision to build the monument on December 7, 2012.
