Hamro Keyboard clarifies it doesn’t collect sensitive, private info

KATHMANDU: Hamro Keyboard app has clarified that it respects user privacy and data security and doesn’t collect, learn or remember any sensitive and private information including credit card numbers and passwords.

Users have been receiving warnings that Hamro Keyboard may be collecting sensitive data. The developer said the warning you see from Google is a standard warning message.

“This warning is shown for all third party keyboard apps including Swiftkey. This is a part of the Android operating system itself. We fully assure that Hamro Keyboard doesn’t and will not collect any of such sensitive information,” said CEO and Founder of Hamro Patro Shankar Uprety in a statement.

The statements added that Hamro Keyboard is released from the official Google Play Store which has its own strict data privacy and security requirements.

“Google Play continuously monitors all apps published on its platform. We request all users to download our apps published in the official play store,” reads the statement.

Hamro Keyboard was released in 2014 out of frustration of Nepali Twitter users community for the lack of a proper Nepali Keyboard app.

At that time, the only alternative was Hindi Keyboard for typing Nepali.

“We worked closely with twitter users to develop Nepal’s own Nepali keyboard supporting all of the commonly used Keyboard layouts. Since then, Hamro Keyboard has grown from its humble beginning. We have added Nepali stickers, themes, ecards, etc,” further states the statement.
