Electric crematorium at Pashupati Aryaghat to resume today



KATHMANDU: Preparations are underway to resume electric crematorium at the Pashupati Aryaghat following 36 hours seal of the area, said the Pashupati Area Development Trust.

Following the cremation of the body of a woman who died of COVID-19 infection on Saturday night, the area and electric crematorium have been cleaned up after sealing the building having the crematorium for 36 hours, said the Trust’s Director Raju Regmi.

The crematorium would resume today noon, he said. Preparations were underway to conduct the PCR test of six people who did all works relating to the cremation of the body of the woman, he said. Personal protective equipment worn by those involved in cremation have been disposed, he said.

Two bodies can be cremated in the crematorium at once. The Trust is set to hold talks with the government to cremate two bodies in the crematorium at once, he said.

There is also a short of staff to operate the service to cremate bodies of coronavirus infected people. So far, only six employees are serving in the crematorium. New staffs need three-month training to operate the crematorium, said the Trust sources. RSS
