NPU Sunsari inks free COVID-19 insurance pact for all journalists of the district



SUNSARI: Nepal Press Union (NPU) Sunsari has inked an agreement with IME General Insurance Limited ensuring free COVID-19 insurance to all working journalists of the district.

Pawan Adhikari, the president of Press Union Sunsari and Bimal Kumar Ranjitkar, the state representative of the IME General Insurance Limited, inked the agreement at Biratnagar office of the IME General Insurance Limited in presence of chair and secretary-general of Federation of Nepalese Journalists State -1 Committee Bikram Luitel and Bibek Gautam respectively.

The umbrella organization of journalists having a democratic political inclination of Nepal inked the first of its kind insurance scheme for all working journalists at risk during the global pandemic time.

According to the agreement, 150 working journalists will be insured with an amount of 1 lakh rupees for free of cost. ”The insurance amount would be given once an insured journalist tests positive in Polymerase Chain Reaction test for COVID-19,” informed Adhikari.

He added, ”The insurance is validated for a year.”

Adhikari said though a journalist group associated with democratic political inclination made the agreement, it would be a scheme for all journalists working in the district irrespective of their political inclination.

”We have formed a working group to finalize 150 names of the working journalists. It would be finalized within days. Then, they would be formally insured for a year,” shared Adhikari.

IME said the insurance agreement package was a part of the corporate social responsibility program.
