Parliament’s budget session to begin today

KATHMANDU: The budget session of the Federal Parliament is set to begin today (Friday) at 1 pm at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.

President Ram Chandra Paudel called the session on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution of Nepal.

This session, commonly known as the budget session, holds significant importance as it will see the presentation of the government’s annual policy and programs, followed by the national budget.

The session is also expected to deliberate on key pending bills, including the Federal Civil Service Act and the School Education Bill.

The previous parliamentary session concluded on March 31. As per constitutional provisions, the interval between two sessions must not exceed six months.

President Paudel is expected to address the joint session of both houses through a formal presentation of the government’s policies and programs, tentatively scheduled for May 1.

Likewise, the Finance Minister will present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year on May 28, following a pre-budget discussion starting May 11.

The Appropriation Bill’s principles and priorities will be discussed in the lead-up to the budget presentation.

The Parliament Secretariat has completed all necessary preparations, including managerial and technical arrangements, to ensure the smooth conduct of the session, according to Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri.
