KATHMANDU: The parliamentary party meeting of the opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has asked to begin the election process to pick the Speaker of the House of Representatives while continuing the House meeting scheduled on Monday.
The PP meeting of the NC held Friday has concluded that it was the ruling party’s mistake to postpone the House meeting by making the Speaker’s vacant post a cause even after a month of beginning of the parliament’s winter session.
Similarly, the NC has reiterated its previous stance that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the parliament should be from different political parties and the two posts should be elected accordingly, NC’s chief whip Bal Krishna Khand said.
The meeting chaired by party president and PP leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has asked to immediately ratify the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) from the parliament.
