KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Parbat Gurung, has said he would work in collaboration with the media houses and organizations working on journalists’ rights like the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).

Minister Gurung made such a remark during a meeting with the FNJ officials at his quarters today.

“I’m always for the protection and promotion of press freedom, professional media, institutional development, and journalists’ rights,” he said, adding that laws and policies necessary for these would be formulated.

FNJ President Govinda Acharya congratulated the newly appointed minister and reminded him about the initiatives that the government needs to take to rescue the media in the wake of the present crisis.

He stressed the need for boarder discussion among government, working journalists, and media owners to restore the media industry and journalists’ rights.

The team also demanded the minister to restructure the media sector in line with Mass Communications Policy, 2073.
