Cabinet meeting underway; committee recommends 10-day lockdown extension



KATHMANDU: The High Level Coordination Committee for Prevention and Control of COVID-19 has recommended the government to extend the nationwide lockdown until May 28.

A meeting of the committee on Sunday decided to recommend the Cabinet by another 10 days.

The Cabinet meeting is currently underway to give it a formal decision in this connection.

The high-level committee has recommended the government on extending the lockdown and change the modality of the prolonged lockdown.

The current lockdown enforced by the government is ending on Monday.

The government had first enforced the lockdown on March 24 for a week after the second coronavirus case was reported in Nepal.

The first lockdown had been extended until March 31, the second one was extended until April 7, the third until April 15, the fourth until April 27, the fifth one until May 7, and the sixth extension is expiring on May 18.

Nepal has 291 COVID-19 cases so far with two deaths.
