DHADING: Several workers have been stranded at Mauwakhola on the border between Dhading and Chitwan as authorities have stopped them from going to their respective destinations.

These workers were headed for their homes in their districts following the extension of the lockdown by the government to prevent the novel coronavirus spread.

The workers, who were in various places of Dhading in course of employment, wanted to go to their homes after stoppage of work and running out of food.

Over 300 people were stopped by the police until Thursday. Most of them did not have anything to eat.

They were stopped by the Chitwan Police at the border with Dhading. However, some of them have been allowed to go and been sent on trucks.

Arrangements are being made to send some more needy ones, police said.

The locals at Mauwakhola had requested the police to allow the workers to travel onwards to their home, said Binod Shah, a local.

A dispute occurred between the police and locals after the former refused to let the workers go home.

The Chief District Officer of Dhading, Asaman Tamang and Chitwan CDO Narayan Prasad Bhattarai held telephone talk after the situation became tense.

Although the two CDOs agreed to send the workers home on trucks carrying essential goods, it is not fully implemented. These workers worked at the several brick kilns and construction sites in Dhading district.
