Arghakhanchi male who committed suicide tests COVID-19 positive



BUTWAL: A 45-year-old male waiting for his COVID-19 test result for more than a week committed suicide in Shitganga-5 Jukena, Arghakhanchi on Tuesday night.

According to the quarantine sources at Shitganga-5, Jukena, the person whose swab was collected on June 8 committed suicide prior to getting his coronavirus positive result.

He was feeling depressed and dissatisfied at not getting the test result for more than a week. He was living in the Jukena based quarantine set up in Hari Secondary School building.

His swab was sent to Public Health Labrotory in Bhairahawa on June 8.

Dr. Rajendra Giri, the head of Bhairahawa-based Public Health Laboratory informed that 49 swabs of Arghakhanchi including the one collected from the deceased male tested coronavirus positive.

The deceased had been living in quarantine since May 23 and by Tuesday he had passed 24 days in the quarantine.

On 24th day he committed suicide hanging himself in the nearby tree on Tuesday night.

According to the sources he was depressed with the life in quarantine and complained that he was humiliated and did not get the report as well.

Two more people living with him in the same quarantine have also tested coronavirus positive.

Bijaya Raj Poudel, the Chief District Officer of Arghakhanchi informed that security forces have been mobilized to find more about the cause of suicides and also to arrange for the hearse management of the deceased.
