BUTWAL: Nepali Congress (NC) ministers are set to resign en masse from the Lumbini provincial government following an agreement between the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) to forge alliance in provincial governments.
Earlier, the Nepali Congress Central Committee had decided to end its power-sharing partnership with the CPN-UML. However, Nepali Congress ministers in Lumbini had not resigned.
After the UML and NCP reached an agreement on Saturday to make an alliance in all seven provinces, Nepali Congress ministers participating in the UML-led government came under moral pressure to step down.
The Lumbini government is currently led by CPN-UML leader Chet Narayan Acharya, with participation from the Nepali Congress. The provincial cabinet includes Urban Development and Drinking Water Minister Saroj Thapa, Economic Affairs Minister Dhanendra Karki, Industry, Tourism and Transport Minister Prachanda Bikram Neupane, Social Development Minister Janamjaya Timilsena, and Forest and Environment Minister Devkaran Kalwar from the Congress.
