Foreign Ministers of India, China hold telephonic talks

NEW DELHI: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday spoke to India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the Monday’s Galwan Valley incident.

During the conversation, Chinese Foreign Minister Yi emphasized both sides need to strengthen communication and coordination to resolve the ongoing differences to maintain peace and tranquility in the border.

The telephonic conversation between the two foreign ministers came after 20 Indian army personnel were killed in clashes with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh on Monday night.

This is the biggest military confrontation in over five decades between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang said both China and India should follow important consensus reached between the two countries and strengthen the communication and coordination on handling of the border situation.

The two sides have also agreed to deal fairly with the events caused by the conflict in the Galwan Valley.
