Indian Army Chief’s version on Lipu Lekh objectionable: Narayan Kaji Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha has demanded that Indian Army Chief correct his version on the Lipu Lekh.

Speaking in a think tank’s webinar on Friday, Indian Army Chief Manoj Naravane had claimed that the Lipu Lekh road was constructed on Indian side and Nepal was raising the issue ‘on behest of other country’.

NCP spokesperson Shrestha in his tweet on Saturday has demanded that the Indian Army Chief  correct his version stating that his comment on Limpiyadhura, Lipu Lekh, Kalapani is unacceptable and against Nepal’s stand on the territory.

“Indian Rmy Chief M  Naravane’s statement on Nepal’s stand on Limpiadhura, Lipu Lekh and Kalapani territory and India built Dharchurla-Lipu Lekh road is highly objectionable,” NCP spokesperson has tweeted.

Opposing to the Indian Army Chief’s comment that Nepal is raising the issue on ‘behest of other country’, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shreshtha  has added that Nepal stands on its own as a sovereign and independent country.

“Nepal always stands on its own as a sovereign and independent country,” Shrestha has said, adding “So he (Army Chief Naravane) should correct his statement”.

The Indian Army chief had said that there is no contradiction at all in the new road construction via Lipu Lekh Pass and Nepal may have raised the issue at the behest of someone else.

“There is no ‘contradiction at all’ in the new road constructed via Lipu Lekh pass up to the Line of Actual Line of Control (LAC) to shorten travel time for Indian pilgrims going to Kailash-Mansarovar,” Gen Naravane had said, adding, “Nepal may have raised the issue at the behest of someone else.”
