Police confiscate over one million masks from Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Acting on a tip-off, police on Monday confiscated over one million surgical masks in three days from Kathmandu.

Around 600,000 units of surgical masks that were allegedly hoarded by black marketers with a motive of black marketing were confiscated on Sunday.

DIG Bishwa Raj Pokhrel informed that the traders have hoarded a huge amount of masks taking the advantage of the coronavirus fear.

Police in recent days have raided several storehouses in Satungal, Bishnudevi, and Chandragiri of Kathmandu and confiscated the masks.

Acting on a tipoff, police confiscated some 175 sacks of masks from Satungal of Kathmandu stored at the house of Rohit Shrestha.

Likewise, police have also confiscated over 168,000 units of masks from Kapan and 78,000 units from Dallu of Kathmandu.

Similarly, police also seized 849,600 masks from Bishnumati of Chandragiri Municipality-10.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Suraj Goyal and Subash Maheshwari in charges of black marketeering.
