NCP drama gets complex with warring factions making conflicting claims on Oli-Prachanda agreement

KATHMANDU: The high-voltage drama has continued to dominate the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) with both the warring factions making conflicting assertions on the agreement reached between Prime Minister KP Oli and NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”.

On Wednesday afternoon, a leader close to PM Oli revealed that the two top leaders — PM Oli and Prachanda – made a four-point agreement and decided to move forward by brushing aside the bitter past.

Soon after the revelation of the four-point agreement, the Prachanda-Madhav Kumar Nepal faction came out with a conflicting claim that no such agreements were made between the two leaders.

A Standing Committee member close to Prachanda-Nepal camp informed Khabarhub that Prime Minister Oli had only agreed to withdraw the ordinance on the Constitutional Council brought by the government on Tuesday.

The leader claimed that Prachanda had agreed to withdraw the signature demanding a special session of the parliament.

“No agreements besides these two points have been agreed,” the source claimed, adding, “We have not agreed to withdraw any of the proposals that we have submitted to the party leadership. This is nothing more than propaganda on the part of the PM Oli’s faction.”

The leader added that the Prachanda-Nepal camp’s agenda has remained unchanged.

Prachanda, speaking during today’s Standing Committee meeting, had clarified that all the previous agendas were intact, and no changes were made.

“Yes, PM Oli made the proposal in today’s meeting, but Prachanda comrade did not accept it,” the leader said.

Earlier, the PM Oli side had claimed that Prime Minister Oli and NCP Chairman Dahal had agreed to reverse all decisions taken after September 11.

“They have agreed to go back to the decision made by the Standing Committee on September 11 and move forward on the basis of the four points agreed on Wednesday at a one-on-one meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar,” a leader close to PM Oli had said.

According to him, PM Oli and Prachanda agreed to withdraw all allegations (including the letters/political documents) against one another; withdraw the ordinance related to the Constitutional Council; withdraw the signature campaign to convene a special session of parliament, and Oli-Prachanda presenting a joint proposal in the next meeting of the Standing Committee.
