SAPTARI: An adolescent raped girl has committed suicide in Saptari after she did not get justice.

The 17-year-old adolescent of Dakneswori municipality-7, Lalitpur committed suicide on Tuesday after the villagers warned and stopped her registering complaint against the rapists at the police office, said the Saptari Police.

Rape survivor’s mother shared that the girl who went to see irrigation outreach at paddy field on Monday morning was gang raped.

She further noted that her daughter was caught in big stress following some villagers preventing the survivors from approaching the police office against four rapists.

The adolescent girl committed suicide after she could tolerate the decision of the village leaders, said Police Inspector of the District Police Office Saptari Santosh Khadka, who reached the incident site.

The neighbours shared that a meeting of 8-10 people of the local Mandal community had stopped the rape survivor and her mother from knocking the door of the police office and decided to have compensated from the rape accused.

Police Inspector Khadka said there used to be problems in investigating and prosecuting such incidents due to the tendency of hiding sensitive crimes.

A team of the District Police Office Saptari headed by Police Inspector Khadka along with another team of the Area Police Office Kalyanpur headed by Police Inspector Dharmaraj Mudbhari and teams from the Area Police Office Pato and Police Post Prabaha had reached the site and investigated into the incident.

Police had gathered some evidence such as broken bangles and the physical setting of the site. Following the suicide of the adolescent, the four-rape accused youths have already absconded from the village.

The dead body was taken to Rajbiraj on Tuesday evening.

Police Inspector Khadka shared that the post-mortem would be performed in Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
