Chitwan Medical College obtains permission for PCR test



KATHMANDU: The Chitwan Medical College (CMC), a hospital run by the private sector in Chitwan district, has got permission to conduct PCR test.

The National Public Health Labrotary at Teku, Kathmandu granted the permission to CMC after inspecting the newly established laboratory.

According to CMC’s chairperson and managing director Prof Dr Harishchandra Neupane, the lab set up at the cost of Rs 54 million would be brought into operation coming Tuesday.

Around 1,200 nasal and throat swabs could be tested in the lab if it is run for 18 hours in a day. It would cost Rs 6,050 to conduct a PCR test, according to Dr Neupane.

There are a total of seven health technicians in the laboratory.

Meanwhile, Chitwan-based BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital has closed it’s all health services except for emergency after COVID-19 cases were reported from health workers and patients.

Ten nurses and seven patients in the Hospital had contracted the flu-like infection, according to the Hospital.
