PM Oli discusses with leaders close to him

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman KP Oli is holding discussions with leaders of his faction after a talk with Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ failed to make headway.

Deputy Prime Minister and NCP Secretariat member Ishwar Pokharel, General Secretary Bishnu Poudel, Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Party Subas Nembang and other leaders are participating at the meeting at prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday evening.

During a meeting between PM Oli and Chairman Prachanda and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal this afternoon, the duo asked the prime minister to step down. However, PM Oli refused to budge.

Today’s meeting was a continuation of the one-on-one meetings between PM Oli and Chairman Dahal, however, involving senior leader Nepal this time.

The meeting was expected to sort out intra-party differences since the top three leaders were involved in it.

It should be noted that a meeting held on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar had ended inconclusively with both the leaders remaining adamant to their respective stance.

The party’s Standing Committee (SC) meeting has been scheduled for Friday.

The SC meeting of the NCP has been postponed time and again after the one-on-one meeting between Dahal and Oli ended inconclusively.

Meanwhile, earlier today, the majority of NCP Secretariat members decided to pile pressure on PM Oli to step down and give continuity to SC meeting at any cost.
