Issuance of ordinance made mockery of constitution: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Leader of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) Gagan Thapa has objected to the Constitutional Council Act Amendment Ordinance issued by the President on Tuesday.

Through a status on Facebook, Thapa objected to the ordinance, adding that the issuance of the ordinance made a mockery of the constitution.

“We will thwart this unconstitutional and autocratic move of the KP Sharma Oli government to close the parliament and issue an ordinance in collusion with the President in an attempt to mock the provisions of the constitution,” he said.

President Bhandari on Tuesday afternoon issued an ordinance on the Constitutional Council (Work, Duties, Rights, and Procedures).

According to the President’s Office, President Bhandari issued the ordinance on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers in accordance with Article 114 (1) of the Constitution.
