Ordinance issue was not discussed in Tuesday’s cabinet meeting

NC President Deuba was against the idea

KATHMANDU: The issue of bringing the Constitutional Council Amendment Ordinance was not discussed in today’s meeting of the cabinet, it is learnt.

Agriculture Minister Ghanashyam Bhusal said the issue of Ordinance did not figure out in the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday afternoon.

This means that Prime Minister KP Oli had sent the Ordinance for the President’s approval on his own.

Usually, Chief Secretary prepares the decision of the cabinet.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had warned Prime Minister KP Oli against the idea of bringing the ordinance saying that NC would not support it.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday issued an ordinance on the Constitutional Council (Work, Duties, Rights, and Procedures).

According to the President’s Office, President Bhandari issued the ordinance on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers in accordance with Article 114 (1) of the Constitution.

The Constitutional Council chaired by the Prime Minister has the leader of the main opposition party, Chief Justice, Speaker, Chairman of the National Assembly, and the Deputy Speaker as members.

After the issuance of the ordinance, the meeting can be held if the majority of members of the Constitutional Council are present.

Earlier, the quorum for the meeting was considered to be reached only when the council Chairperson and four members were present.
