CC meeting taking place at Baluwatar today



KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) is taking place today. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called the CC meeting at Baluwatar this morning.

Earlier, the meeting which was scheduled for Sunday was postponed after main opposition party leader President Sher Bahadur Deuba  and  Speaker  Agni Prasad Sapkota did not turn up in the meeting.

Deuba is attending today’s CC meeting, confirmed his personal secretary Bhanu Deuba.

The meeting is expected to make appointments to the vacant posts in the constitutional bodies including the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Election Commission.

As many as 46 posts are lying vacant in 11 constitutional bodies, currently.

Chaired by Prime Minister Oli, the CC has Chief Justice, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chairman of National Assembly, main opposition party leader and Deputy Speaker of the HoR are as members. Currently, the post of Deputy Speaker is vacant.

The CC has to make recommendation for appointments one month before the posts lie vacant as per Article 284 (3) of the Constitution.
