Govt team leaving for Bangladesh to purchase fertilizer

KATHMANDU: A government team is leaving for Bangladesh to purchase 50,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizer.

The Nepali government team is heading towards Bangladesh on Tuesday to sign an agreement in order to purchase fertilizer through government to government (G2G) process.

A four-member team led by Managing Director of Agriculture Inputs Company, Netra Bahadur Bhandari, is going to Bangladesh for the same, said Secretary at the Agriculture and Livestock Development Ministry, Dr. Yogendra Kumar Karki.

Joint-Secretary at the Ministry, Kanchan Raj Pandey, Chief of Procurement Division of the Company, Bishnu Prasad Pokharel, and Agriculture Publicity Officer of the Ministry, Arun GC, are also in the team.

According to the Ministry, the team would present its proposal for purchasing fertilizer to the Bangladeshi government on Wednesday and sign an agreement in this regard.

Verbal consent was reached between the heads of governments of both countries in September to borrow fertilizer from Bangladesh.

Though the Bangladeshi government had made preparation to lend fertilizer in the initial phase, it later proposed to take the fertilizer after purchasing it.
