Home Ministry directs to tighten the noose around lockdown violators



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the concerned authorities to further tighten the lockdown in the Kathmandu Valley enforced to stem the spread of coronavirus.

The Ministry on Thursday instructed the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, the chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, the chief district officers of the three districts and the mayor of the metropolis to tighten the noose.

The Ministry has already scrapped all the inter-district vehicle passes effective from today following a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases.

Earlier, government employees, employees of banks and financial institutions, industry, construction services and other people could walk around showing the identity card of the office, but now they have to obtain passes from the regulatory bodies.

The government had decided to let 42 different industries operate since last Friday. Similarly, one-third of the employees of government offices in Kathmandu Valley have been instructed to attend office.

It had resulted in traffic gridlock in Kathmandu mainly during rush hours.
