KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police have arrested 20 Nepali migrant workers for defying lockdown imposed to stem Coronavirus in Malaysia as of Tuesday morning.
Five Nepalis were arrested from Penang Bridge in Malaysia on March 30. Those arrested were Shom Thakuri, Mahendra Rai, Bijaya Tamang, Dil Kumar Chaudhary and Pankaj Kumar Raya.
Similarly, on March 31, Yam Bahadur Sijali, Shyam Bahadur Suryabangsi, Mahesh Kumar Upadhyaya, Ram Kumar Tamang, Kamal Chalise, and Dilip whose surname is yet to be ascertained were held from SND BHD Johor, according to their colleagues working in the same company.
On April 1, Malaysian police arrested Mingmar Dolma Tamang, Man Bahadur Tamang, Bhakta Bahadur Tamang, Rakesh Balami from Minyak Technology based in Malacca City in Malaysia.
Likewise, four Nepalis including Sanjiv Sahani were arrested from SLC Technology Company Selangor on April 1, informed Sahani’s elder brother.
Malaysia government has enforced lockdown until April 28 to stem the deadly coronavirus. Those found defying lockdown would be sentenced to six months in jail allowing with a fine of Malaysian Ringgit 1,000, said Malaysian government.
