COVID-19: India extends lockdown until May 3



NEW DELHI: Amid coronavirus pandemic, the government of India has extended the lockdown until May 3 as the number of coronavirus cases in the country surged past 10,000-mark on Tuesday.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced an extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3 in a bid to tackle the spread of coronavirus in the country.

In a televised address to the nation on Tuesday, PM Modi thanked citizens for their efforts to save India.

He said that the lockdown 2.0 will come into effect from till May 3 from today.

In his address to the nation, PM Modi said that with the fast action and early lockdown, India has done better than other bigger countries in containing coronavirus.

He said that the figures from several developed nations show that Indian is doing much better.

He also stated that India acted early to contain the coronavirus pandemic adding that screenings started even before the country reported any coronavirus cases.

PM Modi said India did not wait for the crisis to get out of hands.

He also stated that the Centre will monitor hotspots in states across the country adding that those areas without hotspots will get partial relief.
