KATHMANDU: The parliamentary Development and Technology Committee has instructed the government to demolish a building, damaged by the 2015 earthquake, inside Singha Darbar premises, which was used as the Parliament building before 2006.

The government was yet to demolish the building after the Department of Archaeology has objected to it.

The Development and Technology Committee has also consulted stakeholders concerned including the Department of Archaeology, the Ministry of Urban Development and the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) about the steps to be taken.

Meanwhile, the Department of Archaeology representatives were against the idea of demolishment, NRA and Ministry of Urban Development suggested that the building be demolished.

The Development and Technology Committee, however, decided to build a new building by demolishing the old building.
