Nepal re-elected as member of UN Human Rights Council

KATHMANDU: Nepal has been elected as a member of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council for the second time.

Nepal was elected as a member for three years (2021 to 023) during a voting held at the UN headquarters on Tuesday night.

Earlier, Nepal had been elected as a member from 2018-020.

Other countries elected as the members from Asia Pacific Region are China, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. In the voting held confidentially, Nepal received 150 votes, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Posting a twitter message, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali has informed that Nepal has been elected as a member to the UN Human Rights Council and thanked all the nations for their voting and the Nepali missions in New York and Geneva for their hard work.

Similarly, other elected nations from Africa include Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Mabali and Senegal, Russia and Ukraine from Eastern Europe, Bolivia, Cuba and Mexico from Latin America and Britain and France from Western Europe.

The tree-year term will begin from 2021.
