Footballer in closed-door camp tests positive for coronavirus



KATHMANDU: A footballer of the national team invited for the closed-door camp is found to have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Spokesperson of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Kiran Rai confirmed that a quarantined footballer was infected with the virus.

On Monday and Tuesday, the ANFA had done the PCR tests of 34 footballers of the national team to play for the World Cup football and Asian Cup selection rounds, 12 employees and eight officials. Of them, 53 tested negative for the virus.

As his result was positive on Thursday, the footballer’s test was taken on Friday as well, which also came positive.
Prior to this, a cricketer and a coach of the squash were tested positive for the virus in Nepal but this is the first case of the coronavirus infection on the footballer.

The ANFA had housed the footballers coming from out of Kathmandu Valley in quarantine facilities and hotels while others were asked to stay at home isolation.
