Ruling party lawmakers laud govt activities

KATHMANDU: Ruling party lawmakers have lauded the government activities in the face COVID-19 crisis, while the opposition party lawmakers expressed concern.

Speaking at special hour of the National Assembly meeting today, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) parliamentarian Khimlal Bhattarai argued that governments’ endeavours to save people from the coronavirus were being meaningful.

Treatment to the virus infected ones, nationwide lockdown, implementation of relief package to the daily wage earners, laboratory at State level were some of the positive works carried out by the government to face the crisis.

Those willing to go home are allowed to return adopting safety measure and the decision to continue pride projects with safety in place are other good works of the government, he asserted.

“Aren’t these good works of the government at this critical time?” he reminded the opposition, saying the government was criticized being biased.

He however drew government’s attention to bring the Nepali workers from India and Gulf countries and expand the coronavirus test.

“Diplomatic and political efforts must be continued to solve the border issues with India. Construction of wall on border is essential,” he added.

Another lawmaker from the same party, Bhairab Sundar Shrestha pointed out the need of effective moves to contain the corona infection.

He, however, said government did very well in short time on treatment of COVID-19. “Issues of Indian excess could be raised even in UN,” he suggested.

Maya Prasad Sharma said establishing barrack of the Armed Police Force by the government at Kalapani area was a positive move.

However, lawmaker of the major opposition Nepali Congress, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, said it was worrying that the government failed to do anything in six months since it was made aware of border management with India.

Further initiatives were essential to contain Indian interference, he added. “Nepal can knock the International Court.

Prime Minister KP Oli needs to hold talk with his Indian counterpart on border issues,” he stressed.

Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party lawmaker Shekhar Kumar Singh said the State needs to make its role more effective to contain corona infection. “The border dispute must be settled based on facts and documents,” he suggested.
