KATHMANDU: The new Gurkha recruitment process has been on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Issuing a notice, British Army Nepal has informed that there will be no new registration and regional selection this year.

“We cannot safely carry out registration and selection for the recruitment intake 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic,” reads the notice issued by British Gurkha Nepal.

In a normal condition, Nepali youths willing to join the British Army  could register their names and take part in the regional selection that would start around this time.

But this year, there is no opportunity for registration of the new candidates. It is likely that those who registered their names but could not get selected can be given opportunity this year.

Those who performed well in the regional and final selection last year are likely to be given opportunity.

Britain recruits every year Nepali youths in the British Army.  It had planned to select 120 in Singapore Police and 432 in the British Army this year for the recruitment intake 2021.
