Health workers unknown about coronavirus

BANKE: A coronavirus health desk has been set up at the Jamunaha transit on the Nepal-India border in Banke district.

The health desk has been established to screen people entering Nepal through the transit.

A health worker has been assigned at the health desk, being operated in a rented shutter, for examining the health of people entering Nepal.

However, the corona health desk, which is responsible for conducting medical tests for coronavirus infection, looks deserted.

Unfortunately, the health workers at the health desk seem to be unknown about the virus.

Devi Chandra Thapa, the chief health assistant at the desk, said they were not well-informed about coronavirus.

“I do not know much about coronavirus as it is a new disease,” said Thapa adding that many health workers do not know its symptoms how it is transmitted.

Thapa said he doesn’t know the method of detecting the virus while urging the concerned authorities to organize an orientation to the health workers about this disease.

He said merely directing the health workers to conduct the tests for coronavirus is not enough, adding that the health workers should be imparted training to make the service of the health desk more effective.
