Constitutional Council meeting rescheduled for Dec 15

Speaker Sapkota and NC President Deuba absent in today's meeting



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has called a meeting of the Constitutional Council on December 15.

The next meeting has been called for Tuesday after two members of the Constitutional Council were absent in today’s meeting convened by Prime Minister KP Oli.

Leader of the main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota were absent from today’s meeting while Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana and National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timalsina were present.

NC President Deuba did not attend today’s meeting as his party has been preparing for a nationwide showdown against the incumbent government.

There is a constitutional provision that the six-member Constitutional Council should have five members, including the Chairperson in the meeting.

As many as 45 seats are lying vacant in the Constitutional Committees.
