AOAN against another lockdown

KATHMANDU: The Airline Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) has said that the economy that has been in a fragile condition should not be weakened again by enforcing a lockdown.

Saying that everyone is aware of the fact that the number of infected people has increased even in the midst of severe lockouts, the association stated that the infection can be brought under control by taking certain measures.

As mobilizing infrastructure and additional manpower is the first requirement and priority to reduce the potential mortality rate from the coronavirus, it is imperative for the concerned agencies to be more sensitive in this regard, the association said in a statement.

At a meeting of the Valley Municipality Forum, an alliance of mayors of the municipal governments in Kathmandu, and COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), the mayors had demanded to enforce another lockdown.

Saying that airlines have already incurred losses of more than Rs 6 billion due to the lockdown, AOAN added that it would not be fair to add more costs.
