HoR election: Complaints against candidates to be filed today



KATHMANDU: With 43 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, the Election Commission (EC) will begin accepting complaints against candidates contesting the elections.

According to the election schedule, complaints may be filed today against candidates whose nomination papers have been registered under the first-past-the-post (direct) electoral system. The Commission stated that nomination papers and complaints will be examined, and necessary decisions will be made before publishing the final list by 5:00 pm on January 22.

The Commission has set January 23 for the withdrawal of candidacies from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. On the same day, the final list of candidates will be published between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, while election symbols will be allotted from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The nomination process for candidates under the direct election system was completed peacefully and enthusiastically at the offices of the Chief Electoral Officer and Election Officers across the country. According to the Commission, a total of 2,925 candidates filed their nominations.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari thanked all concerned for the smooth and peaceful completion of the nomination process and expressed confidence in continued cooperation from political parties and stakeholders during the remaining phases of the election.

Election Commission Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut confirmed that 2,925 nominations were received, including 336 women and 2,589 men. Among the candidates, 85 are persons with disabilities and 138 are from marginalized communities, according to the Commission.
