Landslide washes away houses, displaces 27 families in Lamjung



LAMJUNG: Two houses were swept away by a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall at Madhya Nepal Municipality-6 in the district this morning.

Devi Kunwar and Bam Bahadur Kunwar lost their homes to the disaster, said a local Ram Chandra Poudel.

Similarly, four other houses were buried in the disaster. The victims are Shiramani Bhattarai, Deepesh Bhattarai, Yekmaya Dura and Harimaya Pariyar.

Until the filing of this report, efforts were underway to clear off the landslide debris with the use of an excavator. As police said 13 families at Ranipokhari and 14 at Lamasoti here have been sent away off their homes by the landslide. They have been relocated to safer places.

Presently, they are taking shelter at the local Ishaneshwor Secondary School. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganga Bahadur Thapa apprised that other several houses at the locality fall under the risk of disaster as monsoon continues to wreak havoc.

Police with the help of locals are undertaking works to evacuate the vulnerable population to safety.
Floods from several local streams have caused damages in the area.
