Further spike in COVID-19 cases likely in Parsa

KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that there are some journalists out of 39 people diagnosed with coronavirus in Parsa district on Tuesday.

According to Dr. Udaya Narayan Singh at Narayani Hospital, Birgunj, it has been revealed that out of the newly-infected people, some have been identified as journalists.

“We are working to get the details of all the cases confirmed on Tuesday,” Dr. Singh told Khabarhub, “It has been reported that journalists are among those infected today. More information will come soon.”

Dr. Singh said that it can be said that the coronavirus infection has spread in the community in Parsa as 39 people tested positive on a single day.

According to Dr. Singh, the process of throat swab test collection in Parsa is still going on. Therefore, the number of infected people may increase further.

“Looking at the cases today, it can be said that the coronavirus infection is now spreading in the community,” said Dr. Singh, “Today, results of only half of the throat swabs arrived. More cases are likely to be seen tomorrow.”

Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Dr. Basudev Pandey says that the number of COVID-10 cases could increase further in Nepal.

He said, “The number of infected people can increase as people have been entering Nepal from India without any restrictions.”

He said that it will be known whether the coronavirus has spread in the community or not only after the completion of contact tracing.

“Health workers are now conducting contact tracing in areas where the infection has been found,” said Dr. Pandey, “Therefore, it cannot be said that the infection has spread in the community without completing the work.”

Nepal has reported 191 COVID-19 cases so far with 33 people recovered.
